Dreyer, Windom Lead Jayhawks on Day One of Hawai'i Invitational

HONOLULU—Sophomores Claire Dreyer and Dylan Windom both notched singles victories for the University of Kansas women’s tennis team Thursday, on the first day of the Rainbow Wahine Spring Invitational in Honolulu. The Jayhawks, who are joined in the tournament by Washington State, Kentucky and hosts Hawai’i, went 2-6 in singles competition and 0-3 in doubles matches. Windom, a sophomore from Tifton, Ga., defeated Washington State’s Andjela Kankaras, 6-3, 6-4. St. Louis, Mo., native Dreyer took down Elizaveta Luzina of Washington State, 6-2, 6-2. The doubles team of junior Monica Pezzotti and Paulina Los, ranked No. 42 in the Campbell/ITA Preseason Rankings, lost to Kentucky’s Jessica Stiles and Khristina Blajkevitch, 8-4. In their first time as a duo, Dreyer and Windom also suffered a defeat at the hands of UK’s Caitlin McGraw and Edmée Morin-Kougoucheff, 8-1. The Jayhawks will return to action Thursday for the second day of the invite. Singles matches are slated to begin at 1 p.m. central time.
