Tennis Falls To Penn St, 4-3

University Park, Pa. - The University of Kansas tennis team dropped a close match to the Penn State Nittany Lions, 4-3, Friday in University Park, Pa. The loss drops the Jayhawks to 1-5 on the season. KU got off to a hot start by winning the doubles point. The duo of junior Christine Skoda and sophomore Ashley Filberth defeated Penn St.'s Katelyn BeVard and Sasha Abraham, 8-6. Junior Luiza Loureiro and freshman Elizaveta Avdeeva downed PSU's Lindsay Downing and Jessica McKeown, 9-7. In singles action the `Hawks earned two victories. After losing the first set, Skoda came back to beat the Nittany Lions' Sarah Spence, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Freshman Lauren Hommell recorded a three-set victory over BeVard, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4. In number one singles action, Avdeeva lost to PSU's Maaria Husain, 6-4, 6-3. The `Hawks will be in action tomorrow, Feb. 19, against Yale in University Park, Pa.
