Kansas Tennis Cruises Past UMKC

LAWRENCE, Kan. – In its first match as a ranked team in nearly four years, No. 65 Kansas routed visiting UMKC, 7-0, Thursday at Jayhawk Tennis Center. The Jayhawks made quick work of the Kangaroos in doubles, giving up only eight total games in the three matches. They followed by sweeping singles play, sealing the match victory with quick victories by junior Dylan Windom, freshman Anastasija Trubica and Maria Belen Ludueña. Kansas had a trio of three-set singles matches, but it managed to pull out all three after the dual outcome had been decided. Junior Paulina Los defeated UMKC’s Dimitra Stavrianakou, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3, before Maria Jose Cardona rebounded from losing the second set of her match to defeat Laura Bouet, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Senior Victoria Khanevskaya also won in a third-set tiebreaker in her 2013 dual match debut, defeating Madeline Schulte, 6-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-7). The victory improved KU to 5-2 in dual play for 2013 UP NEXT: Kansas will have the next week off from competition before hitting the road to face No. 37 Oklahoma on March 8 and No. 27 Oklahoma State March 10. The Jayhawks will not play another home dual match until March 30 when they face Kansas State.
