WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - University of Kansas sophomore Yuliana Svistun captured the championship of the Flight D singles bracket, and sophomore Edina Horvath placed fifth in the Flight C bracket, capping a strong weekend for the Jayhawks at the Wake Forest University Deacon Classic.

Svistun, whose first place finish in Flight D was the best of any Kansas player at the three-day event, beat Wake Forest's Jenna Loeb, 6-1, 6-4, to earn the title.

Horvath's victory in the fifth-place match came over East Tennessee State's Elena Volovueva, 6-4, 6-1.  Also in the Flight C singles draw, junior Stephanie Smith won the consolation side of the bracket on Sunday by defeating UNC-Charlotte's Candace Cunningham, 6-4, 7-6 (5).

KU will next be in action when it travels to Bloomington, Ind. for the Hoosier Classic.  The tournament will run Oct. 6-8 on the campus of the University of Indiana.
