Dreyer, Trubica Win Doubles Flight at Tribe Invitational

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Junior Claire Dreyer and freshman Anastasija Trubica won the Michelle O Doubles Flight, while another three Jayhawks advanced to a singles final on the second day of the Tribe Invitational, hosted by William & Mary. Dreyer and Trubica needed a tiebreaker in their semifinal match Saturday morning to defeat Marshall’s Ellie Ball and Kai Broomfield, 9-8(3), before taking down Jacqueline Palmucci and Ruxandra Andriescu, 9-7, in the final. Dreyer will also play in the Julie Shiflet Singles Flight title after cruising past Harvard’s Hannah Morrill, 6-3, 6-1, in round two. She faces Morrill’s teammate Crystal Yen in the final. In the Megan Moulton-Levy Singles Flight, sophomore Maria Belen Ludueña won a three-set thriller over Maria Belaya of William & Mary, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5. Ludueña advanced to her flight final with the win, where she will play Virginia Commonwealth’s Olga Terteac. Senior Victoria Khanevskaya also used a three-set comeback victory over James Madison’s Cara Wirth, 4-6, 7-6(5) to advance to the Marion Gengler Singles Flight final, where she will face Sarah Henderson of Penn State. All singles finals will begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Kansas won seven of its 12 Saturday matches, with a 4-3 singles record and a 3-2 mark in doubles play.
