Kansas Completes ITA Regional Qualifying Rounds

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Kansas tennis team completed the first day of competition on Wednesday at the Wilson/ITA Regionals in Tulsa, Okla., held at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Freshman Stephanie Smith advanced in the first round of qualifying over Arkansas-Little Rock's Ellie Vicary, 6-4, 6-3. Smith was unable to advance any further as she was dropped by New Mexico's Nora Quintal 6-3, 6-1, in the second qualifying round. KU's other two day one participants, Luiza Loureiro and Ashley Filberth were unable to make it to the second qualifying round, as Loureiro lost 6-2, 6-3, to Nebraska's Pamela Castellejos and Filberth fell to Oklahoma's Christi Baxley, 6-1, 6-1. Play will continue on Thursday with singles and doubles competition beginning at 9 a.m. Live scoring for the event can be accessed on the University of Tulsa's web site at www.TulsaHurricane.com.
