Cardona Advances at ITA Regionals, Trubica Wins Singles Draw at KU Invitational
Oct. 20, 2012 TULSA, Okla. - Kansas freshman Maria Jose Cardona defeated Wichita State's Lucia Kovalova, 6-2, 6-4, Saturday in the main singles draw round of 16 of the ITA Regional Championships at Michael D. Kansas freshman Anastasija Trubica won Singles Draw C Saturday at the KU Invitational at Jayhawk Tennis Center, defeating Kansas State's Amina St. Hill in the finals, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. Trubica defeated Ali Patterson of Drake in the semifinals, 7-5, 6-1. Senior Victoria Khanevskaya took third of Singles Draw B after beating Dimitra Starianakou of UMKC, 6-3, 6-1. Junior Claire Dreyer bounced back from an opening-round loss in Singles Draw A to take fifth with a win over UMKC's Eva Dalvai in the consolation finals, 6-0, 6-1. Trubica and Dreyer defeated Laura Bouet and Dimitra Stavrianakou, 8-2, to finish third in the tournament's doubles draw.
