Dreyer Wins Singles Draw as KU Tennis Ends Fall Season
Nov. 12, 2012 SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Kansas junior Claire Dreyer took the singles Grey Draw title, as the Kansas women’s tennis team wrapped-up its fall season Sunday at the San Diego State Fall Classic. Dreyer defeated Middle Tennessee State’s Irina Constantinide, 6-4, 7-6(5), in the final of her draw while KU finished the weekend with a combined singles and doubles record of 15-21. Fellow junior Paulina Los was the only other Jayhawk to win her singles match on Sunday, beating MTSU’s Nayara Moraes in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0(4). A native of St. Louis, Dreyer finished the fall season with her team's best individual record in both singles (11-1) and doubles (11-3). She earned singles draw titles at the first KU Invitational and the William & Mary-hosted Tribe Invitational before this weekend's victory. Kansas had more success in doubles play on the final day of competition in San Diego, winning all three of its four matches. Cardona and senior Monica Pezzotti recovered from back-to-back losses to defeat Southern Methodist University’s Heidi Stewart and Hristina Dishkova, 8-1, in the consolation rounds of the Black Draw. In the Red Draw, Dreyer and Los defeated San Diego State’s Kristin Buth and Michela Casanova, 9-7, while junior Dylan Windom and sophomore Maria Belen Ludueña took down Arizona’s Susan McRann and Inge Hendrikx, 8-3. The Kansas women’s tennis team will be back in action on Jan. 18 at the Clemson Winter Classic in Clemson, S.C. All competitive events afterward will be in the form of dual matches, starting at home against Denver University Feb. 1.
