After serving as a team manager for the past four seasons, Kansas alum Dan Georgalas has been promoted to volunteer assistant coach for the Jayhawk volleyball program for the 2011-12 academic year.

In his new role at KU, Georgalas will handle all travel arrangements for the team during its fall season and help with video operations for Kansas and its opponents. Georgalas will also take over as director of the Jayhawk Juniors Volleyball Club, which offers clinics for Lawrence-area youths wishing to improve their volleyball skills.

A native of Chicago, Ill., Georgalas did not start playing volleyball until his senior year of high school but earned a starting position at middle hitter halfway through the season. His state-ranked Buffalo Grove High School team finished fourth in the state with Georgalas taking home the team's most improved player award after leading the squad with a .460 attack percentage.

Georgalas went onto to start for the KU men's club volleyball team for two seasons and helped the Jayhawks qualify for the NIRSA National Tournament in Spring 2010.

Georgalas graduated from Kansas in December 2010 with a degree in sports management and a minor in business.
