Jan. 31, 2013
LAWRENCE, Kan. - Kansas Volleyball will offer several opportunities to learn from Big 12 Coach of the Year Ray Bechard, his coaching staff and the rest of the Jayhawks this summer as the program released the 2013 camp dates Thursday afternoon.
For individuals, KU will host position clinics for hitters (June 1) and another focused on defensive specialists, liberos and setters (June 2). The Jayhawks will also host two sessions of overnight skills camps, the first on June 3-5 and the second from July 19-21. Team camps will also be offered twice on July 8-10 and July 11-13.
"We really enjoy these camps," Bechard said. "They provide a great way for our staff and our players to connect with the community and with volleyball players in our area. We can welcome them to our campus, spend time with them and hopefully improve each individual's skillset, as well as, promote the strength of the game locally."

Campers will be evaluated in all skills and receive a camp notebook detailing the camp's training methods. This camp is open to athletes entering grades 6-12 in the of Fall 2013. Campers will compete in the equivalent of 10 league and tournament matches. Each league team will be assigned a camp staff member to help facilitate all the skills learned throughout the camp.
Campers stay overnight in Naismith Hall, a dorm located on campus just 100 yards from HFAC. Athletes are allowed to pick their own roommates.
The daily schedule will include two skills sessions focusing on position training and transition work. Competitive league play will be the emphasis at each evening session. If a high school coach is unable to attend with their team, a veteran coach from our camp staff will be assigned to the team.
Bill Cordes, a motivational speaker who has worked with the KU Volleyball team for many years, will also present a valuable team building activity.
