Kansas Volleyball Among Nation's Leaders in Attendance

LAWRENCE, Kan. -

For the fifth consecutive season, Kansas volleyball ranks as one of the most-watched Division I volleyball programs in the nation, according to figures released by the NCAA.

An average of 1,018 fans per match came to watch the KU volleyball team in 2009, which ranks as the 44^th-best attendance among 330 D-I volleyball programs. A total of 14,257 patrons came through the doors of the Horejsi Family Athletics Center last season, an increase of almost 500 people from 2008.

“The Horejsi Family Athletics Center provides a unique fan experience,” said head coach Ray Bechard. “Our staff and team are very appreciative of those that come out to watch and we feel they are instrumental to the success we have at home.”

The Big 12 Conference’s teams achieved the second-best attendance in the nation averaging 1,976 fans per match, less than 15 fans per match below the Big Ten Conference.

The Jayhawks have consistently drawn sizable crowds to their home matches and have placed in the top 50 attendance leaders every season since 2005, when the NCAA began keeping records.
