Since the earliest years of The University of Kansas, KU athletic events have been a large part of the social atmosphere for students and alumni alike. Over time, many changes have taken place concerning the opportunities that KU students have had to participate in athletics, including the level of competitiveness, sponsorship of sports teams, and changes in athletic programs.
