Beaty Announces Isaiah Johnson Will Not Return for 2015 Season

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas football head coach David Beaty announced Friday that safety Isaiah Johnson will not return to the Jayhawk program for the 2015 campaign, due to personal reasons.

“We would like to thank Isaiah for all of the contributions he made to our program during his time at Kansas,” said Beaty. “He has been a model citizen and teammate and we wish him nothing but the best in the future.”

Johnson, who is expected to complete his degree in sociology in May, came to Kansas in January 2013 from Iowa Western Community College. During his two seasons as a Jayhawk, Johnson collected 148 tackles, 3.5 tackles-for-loss, six interceptions, seven pass breakups and a forced fumble.

“My time at KU has been a great experience,” said Johnson. “I have learned a lot from my coaches and have made friends I will keep for the rest of my life. Unfortunately, for personal reasons, I will play my last year somewhere else, but I will always be grateful to Coach Beaty and his staff for all that they have done for me and how much he has helped me during this time.”

Beaty and the Jayhawks will open spring practice on Tuesday, March 24, and the schedule will conclude with the 1 p.m., game on Saturday, April 25. Kansas, who returns 44 letterwinners from the 2014 season, will spread out its spring practice dates over a five-week period spanning the last week of March and the month of April.
