Practice No. 1 in the Books as KU Preps for World University Games
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Summer practice No. 1 is in the books as Kansas men’s basketball, the USA National Team, prepares for the upcoming World University Games in Gwangju, Korea, July 3-14.
“Day one was actually very encouraging,” KU head coach Bill Self said following Monday’s nearly two-hour workout in the KU Practice Gym. “Of course the guys had a lot of bounce, and we didn’t go real hard, but we looked athletic – and threw it all over the gym. For the most part, the returning guys did a good job helping Lagerald (Vick) and Carlton (Bragg). It was a good day.”
The USA National Team will face Team Canada in two exhibition games, June 23 and 26 at 7 p.m. at Kansas City’s Sprint Center. Tickets for the two games are $50 for both games or $27 for the Tuesday, June 23 contest and $37 for the Friday, June 26 matchup. The games will serve as a tune-up for the team’s participation in the World University Games in Korea, July 3-14. The United States International University Sports Federation (US-IUSF) selected the Jayhawks to represent the United States in the global event. Even though selected by the US-IUSF, all the costs associated with the trip are the responsibility of the institution. The proceeds from these two exhibition games will help fund these expenses. The two Canada contests will be the first public appearance by the 2015-16 Jayhawks, which will include the incoming recruiting class.
The World University Games, as well as the two exhibition games at Sprint Center, will be administered under FIBA rules. The most notable differences from the college game are the four, 10-minute quarters and a 24-second shot clock.
